August at Ghillie Dhu is shaping up to be one to remember! Celebrating the 70th anniversary of Edinburgh’s most famous festival, our friends at Ghillie Dhu have a programme full of electric performances held in their stunning auditorium; from international musical and dance acts to variety performances and some good old Scottish country dancing!
So just what does Ghillie Dhu have in store for this August? Lets take a look…
CABAREILIDH – 3rd-6th, 13th, 17th, 20th, 24th-27th August 2017 at 7pm
This Fringe festival Ghillie Dhu are bringing you the wonder that is Cabareilidh! Think the rest of the world meets Scotland as they bring you a sampling of cabaret performances followed by an evening of traditional dance and music. Start your evening with a complimentary welcome drink to get the party started, followed by a beautifully crafted three course meal. Throughout your meal, enjoy some highly entertaining cabaret and variety performances. Then end your night on a high with a truly traditional Scottish Ceilidh, and all within the confinements of our stunning auditorium.
BRIAN KENNEDY – 10th-12th August 2017 at 8pm
Brian makes a triumphant return to the Fringe to perform his hit album A Better Man in its entirety. 2016 saw him begin a journey with cancer and he cites singing and performing as the motivation for staying positive. In Brian’s words: ‘The gigs make everything worthwhile, the fans’ support means the world to me, if anything the diagnosis and treatment has given me greater focus and determination to get through it all and my voice has never been stronger. Music is the ultimate healer.’ Seeing him perform live is all the proof that’s needed.
Cell Block Soweto: An A Cappella Gang Show – 7th-9th, 15th-17th, 21st-22nd August 2017 at 7.30pm and 23rd August 2017 at 3.45pm
Cell Block Soweto: An A Cappella Gang Show by After Freedom is a new a cappella show telling stories of five prisoners confined in one of Johannesburg’s prisons. Presented in a light hearted and entertaining manner through stories and music, the show engages the audience in a musical journey into the South African past and present. The show intertwines African and Western tunes in quality a cappella arrangements. You are bound to be entertained!
I Am Rhythm – 4th-5th, 7th-13th, 15th-16th, 18th-22nd, 24th-27th August 2017 at 3.45pm
2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Sell-Out Laurel holder I Am Rhythm takes you on an unforgettable dance and music journey all the way from South Africa. Mesmerising melodies intertwined with an array of traditional and urban dances. Unmissable! Fresh, upbeat dance show that tells the story of the evolution of rhythm and dance in South Africa; from tribal Tswana, warrior Zulu, to energetic Gumboot, swinging Kofifi, to urban Pantsula and Sbujwa dance styles.
Ghillie Dhu is also the prefect pit stop for a delicious pre-tattoo dinner including a wee dram of whisky to truly enhance your Scottish experience! You can also enjoy free live music every evening in the bar from local Scottish talent, live every night from 10pm.
